The Little Theatre On The Square FUTURE STARS (formerly S.T.A.R.), began offering dance classes in affiliation with the Sullivan Civic Center in 1997. In 2000, drama classes were added, and the Education Outreach Performances began in 2002 with SchoolHouse Rock Live, JR! It is the mission of The Little Theatre to offer educational opportunities in the Arts for ages 5 - adult through the theatre’s professional staff of directors, actors and technicians.
It is our goal also to give each student a broad Fine Arts experience in a safe, nurturing and quality environment. The enrichment of each student is achieved through their experiences in the classroom as well as by our commitment to providing performance opportunities. Two student musicals (one in the fall, one in the spring) and the Annual Dance Recital provide the experiences vital to the dancer/actor’s overall development. Through these performances, students learn responsibility and teamwork, gain confidence, and are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment.
The Dance/Drama curriculum is comprehensive and is designed to give each child or adult the best possible dance and drama education. Technique and discipline are stressed throughout each and every class. Building confidence in each student’s abilities and instilling a sense of commitment to themselves and their peers is an important aspect of Future Stars training.
The Dance curriculum includes a vigorous and professional approach in the training of your dancer. As teachers, we continually use various teaching methods designed to provide a “fun atmosphere” throughout his or her training. Our philosophy is that dancing should be fun and we feel this environment maximizes each dancer’s capacity to learn.
The Future Stars program is continually in a state of growth. Whether the student stays with us only for a year or two, or throughout their childhood into adulthood, the educational experiences contribute to the overall growth and development of each person. Each dance student is taught the proper techniques of movement fundamentals that will enhance their confidence as they pursue activities from routine walking and running to activities that require complicated movement.
Each drama student is taught basic techniques of acting to stimulate the imagination and help develop self-confidence and self-esteem. The classes and programs we offer through our Future Stars program enrich the student’s life as a whole. We appreciate the opportunity to be a part of who your child becomes.
“The Arts are worth studying simply because of what they are. Their impact cannot be denied. Throughout history all the arts have served to connect our imaginations with the deepest questions of human existence: Who am I? What must I do? Where am I going? Studying responses to those questions through time and across cultures as well as acquiring the tools and knowledge to create one’s own responses is essential not only to understanding life, but to living it fully."
~Kent Seidel, PhD Commissioned by the Association for The Advancement of Arts Education
The staff of The Little Theatre On The Square and the Future Stars faculty are dedicated to teaching your child the Arts of Dance, Drama and Voice to help answer these basic questions. We want to give our students the chance to know who they are, what they must do, and where they are going so that they too may live their lives to the fullest.
